Lead Gardener
Description

The ideal candidate has a background in landscaping/garden work. Strong consideration will be given to candidates that truly understand the value of customer service, and team dynamics, have a connection to the land, and are willing to continue improving their knowledge and skills within the green industry. You will be asked to take ownership over the landscapes Plant Theory manages; maintaining great relationships with clients, guiding the team daily, implementing policy and procedure, keeping crew members on task with the big picture in mind while paying attention to the details to complete daily, weekly, and monthly goals.

 

Job Summary

The Lead Gardener is responsible for managing various aspects of residential and commercial sites; job site knowledge and tool knowledge will be essential to making informed decisions. You will be asked to strive for consistency and achieve efficient results while ensuring the highest level of quality and customer service. Before leaving a job, you will be the final person responsible for making sure the tasks are completed, site is tidy, tools are returned, and any next steps are relayed so that we can properly prepare for future work and keep our customers happy and in the loop.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Timely and exceptional verbal and electronic communication pertaining to the job
  • Ability to receive and respond to texts and occasional emails
  • Take notes, pictures, and records of work done or questionable garden scenarios
  • Supervision of crew to ensure proper use and return of equipment necessary to complete jobs
  • Hands on work such as weeding, pruning, hedging, planting, mulching, watering, raking, and operating a variety of equipment
  • Ability to perform tasks of moderate physical exertion including loading and unloading vehicles, using wheelbarrows to move materials, lifting bags of soil, fertilizer, and other materials up to 50lbs
  • Deliver excellent customer service and conflict resolution
  • Relay job details, crew efficiencies, schedule, safety issues, and quality of work
  • Ensure that the crew understands the day’s goals, has the tools to achieve them, and stays on track with time and quality of work
  • Direct activities on site including coordination of work flow, hands on work, and proper use and storage of equipment
  • Work closely and consistently with all crew members to help them grow individually and as a team
  • Always strive to keep a professional but positive attitude, where clients and crew members alike feel that they can ask questions and rely on you for decision making
Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Understanding scope of work, tools, and plant materials
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Effective and professional communication and customer service
  • Ability to thrive in group settings, and assign tasks effectively
  • Detail-oriented and determined to complete jobs fully
  • Ability to balance the needs of the site and needs of crew members, while making choices that will benefit the customer and future crews and contractors to work on site
